Keith 2 v Inverurie Loco Works 3

UNLUCKY MAROONS LOSE OUT AGAINST LOCOS

Well, the Maroons saw their four game unbeaten run come to an end against Inverurie Locos, a team eight places above them in the League Table, despite a valiant effort. Sadly, the errors that led to all three Locos goals proved costly, but Craig Ewen’s men are to be commended on the way they performed, having figured in five gruelling matches over a 14 day period.

The Kynoch Parkers were driving forward in the final 10-15 minutes, whilst several visitors seemed to be flagging with cramp, and perhaps to signify the pressure on Locos, the sole booking of the afternoon came for their custodian Andy Reid for time wasting.

The men from Harlaw Park got their noses in front in the 12th minute when Michael Ironside lost possession inside his own penalty area and the end result saw Sam Robertson drive the ball into the roof of the net from eight yards. The Maroons rolled the sleeves up and dug in, but were hit a couple of minutes from the break when the ball was lost upfield and ex-Keith hotshot Jonny Smith punished the error, pouncing to slam home from six yards.

Keith were full of vim and vigour after half-time and within four minutes Matty Tough sent a looping header into the roof of the net for his 5th goal of the season.  Less than two minutes later sadly the two goal deficit was restored when the home defence failed to clear a free kick, and the unfortunate Kieran Yeats sliced the ball into his own net.

Again, the homesters rallied and regrouped taking the game to their visitors and James Brownie sent a drive inches over the bar, and Tough saw an effort cleared off the line. The home fans saw a glimmer of home in the 83rd minute when Gavin Elphinstone rifled home his 3rd goal since joining from Huntly, but despite a grandstand finish, it wasn’t quite enough to get the third goal that would have given them the share of the spoils that nobody would have begrudged.
