Sandy Stables

Keith Football Club mourns the loss of a truly great servant, friend and colleague with the sad passing today of their honorary President Sandy Stables.

Sandy was a larger than life character who loved Keith FC, and will forever be known as the driving force at Kynoch Park as Chairman during a period when his beloved Maroons won six Highland League titles, 6 League Cups, 2 Qualifying Cups, 2 Aberdeenshire Cups, 5 Aberdeenshire District Shields, 5 Aberdeenshire League titles and 6 Highland Youth Cups.

His drive to win was legendary, but he was much more than an incredible Ambassador for Keith FC, he also flew the flag stoically for the Highland League at the SFA for many, many years. He was surely the wise old owl of the Highland League, and a countless number of individuals from every North Club and beyond sought his counsel on so many footballing matters down through the years.

He joined the Maroons as a stripling Committee member fifty years ago and rose to be the Keith FC figurehead for nearly forty years. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and in the heat of ’battle’ took no prisoners, but afterwards in the respective Boardrooms would discuss the finer points of the game often with a great deal of joviality.

He was rightly proud of his having served two terms of Office as Highland League President, and being an SFA Councillor for umpteen years, serving both with great distinction.

He took great pride in Keith FC winning so many honours, given the small catchment area, and lived and breathed the Maroons.

It was only in the last two years when his health sadly began to weaken that he took a back seat, but he was still to be found in his normal spot in the Stand named after him, encouraging his Team to bigger and better things.

He was surely a friend to all in the family of the Highland league outwith his main love Keith FC.

To say he will be sadly missed is a massive understatement, and all at Keith Football Club send their thoughts to his wife Joan and their family at this very sad time.

Farewell to a great Keith FC Legend, Sandy will never be forgotten.

As a mark of respect tomorrow’s game has been postponed.
